Analisis of a Ted Talk ( by Sir Ken Robinson)

Today, we analyzed a Ted Talk by Sir Ken Robinson, and we had to answer at the next questions.

1) What’s the topic ? What are the mains ideas ? When the ideas are introduced ? And how ?

The topic of this Ted Talk is the actual system of education. To deepen about this topic, he speaks about main ideas like the creativity and the fact that actual school system kill out the creativity of children. He introduced his subject and this main ideas from the beginning of this Ted Talk, so we know very quickly about what he wanted to speak. For example, from the beginning, he made a comparison between mathematics or literacy’s subjects and the creative or artistic’s subjects in school (which aren’t valued at the same way).

2) What’s main support used the speaker to convince us ? Give examples ?

To covince us, the speaker used a lot of methods. He used lots of examples, but also some definitions, personnal experiences, facts, jokes or cotations. For example, he speaks about his son and his relocation to USA, or his wife when she’s cooking, so some personnal experiences which help us to know him and maybe to be convinced by his ideas. An other example, he made a comparison between England and United States, so it’a a fact and it also help him to convince us. I think that when he use jokes it’s really a good way to convince his audience, because it created a proximity between him and the audience.

3) What’s the speaker’s conclusion ? How does he conclude ?

To conclude, the speaker use a simple and efficace way because he talks about all the main points of his ted talks and summarize his main ideas. This allows us to remember all his ideas and to rethink their validity in our eyes.
